Absolute Masterpiece。 It was so scary that i can imagine it clearly and vividly and the book got me so hooked i finish it in like 3 days。 Superb read and really scary。

2like it was okay， i would never pick it up and read it again。 it was very difficult to get through at the beginning and middle because there was so much detail about seemingly unrelated things。 like they could have cut so many unnecessary parts out， but they didn’t and that made the book extremely long。 like 659 pages is ridiculous。 the first 250 pages were so bland， whereas the last 150 pages were filled with so much。 the storyline was sort of interesting but it wasn’t scary。 i wanted to stop 2like it was okay， i would never pick it up and read it again。 it was very difficult to get through at the beginning and middle because there was so much detail about seemingly unrelated things。 like they could have cut so many unnecessary parts out， but they didn’t and that made the book extremely long。 like 659 pages is ridiculous。 the first 250 pages were so bland， whereas the last 150 pages were filled with so much。 the storyline was sort of interesting but it wasn’t scary。 i wanted to stop reading a few times （a lot within the first 400 pages）， but still ending up pushing through and finishing it because the last 150 pages or so were fairly intriguing。 。。。more

Loved reading it again！ Stephen King is an amazing storyteller。 I read few of his books as a teenagers but only understood them a little。 I decided to revisit them as a grown up to see how I'd feel about them。The Shining was the first on my list and god I wasn't disappointed！ I still feel just as great as I did reading it the first time。 It still gave me the chills。。。I'll be revisiting Carrie and Misery next！ Loved reading it again！ Stephen King is an amazing storyteller。 I read few of his books as a teenagers but only understood them a little。 I decided to revisit them as a grown up to see how I'd feel about them。The Shining was the first on my list and god I wasn't disappointed！ I still feel just as great as I did reading it the first time。 It still gave me the chills。。。I'll be revisiting Carrie and Misery next！ 。。。more

I do prefer the film， however， the book does an astounding job towards character development while the film tends to go more so for atmosphere and show off what the soundtrack and cinematography can do for the story in film form。 Certain things such as Jack using a mallet rather than an axe provides a more uniquely memorable weapon， while an axe would be much more pragmatic in a situation like this， the mallet adds a more surreal edge to book。 Overall， I think the book has a much different feel I do prefer the film， however， the book does an astounding job towards character development while the film tends to go more so for atmosphere and show off what the soundtrack and cinematography can do for the story in film form。 Certain things such as Jack using a mallet rather than an axe provides a more uniquely memorable weapon， while an axe would be much more pragmatic in a situation like this， the mallet adds a more surreal edge to book。 Overall， I think the book has a much different feel to the film， so much so that these two entities aren't as much as being at ends with one another， rather they feel more like separate entries。 I loved them both， and this book especially is probably king's finest work。 。。。more

I listened to the audio book。I'm so glad that I enjoyed this！ This will probably be the last King book I'll be reading， and I want to leave his work on a good note。 I've read multiple books by King， and I don't like his writing style even though I want to。 I can't stand the long drawn out plots， child orgies， dumb characters， etc。 I really liked the characters in this work though。 They were realistic and interesting。 I could definitely believe their situation could happen based on their personal I listened to the audio book。I'm so glad that I enjoyed this！ This will probably be the last King book I'll be reading， and I want to leave his work on a good note。 I've read multiple books by King， and I don't like his writing style even though I want to。 I can't stand the long drawn out plots， child orgies， dumb characters， etc。 I really liked the characters in this work though。 They were realistic and interesting。 I could definitely believe their situation could happen based on their personalities and backstory。 I enjoyed the delve into madness and other characters' reactions to the madness。 I can finally watch the movie now！ 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it， click here。 Horror is usually not a genre I'm interested in， but I picked this one up out of curiosity and read the first three pages and was instantly hooked。 This is an amazing book。 I feel like it goes well beyond horror and deserves a place in the literary canon。 I think what makes it so good is that， for all its supernatural and creepy elements， it's a very real story。 The characters resonate because they're so real， and the way King explores the inner workings of their minds is masterful。 I haven't se Horror is usually not a genre I'm interested in， but I picked this one up out of curiosity and read the first three pages and was instantly hooked。 This is an amazing book。 I feel like it goes well beyond horror and deserves a place in the literary canon。 I think what makes it so good is that， for all its supernatural and creepy elements， it's a very real story。 The characters resonate because they're so real， and the way King explores the inner workings of their minds is masterful。 I haven't seen the movie but I honestly can't imagine it being 1/10 as good as the book without the inner thoughts of the characters。 I'd heard a lot about the book being scary， and there definitely are really creepy and scary things that happen （obviously）， but the word I would use to describe it is disturbing。 Jack's disintegration from a flawed man desperately trying to overcome addiction and abusive behavior and to start a new life with his family， to a crazed， murderous maniac is nothing short of tragic， and far more terrifying than the hedge animals or Room 217。 The way his mind turns on itself and his family is the real horror of the story。 Perhaps because that is the part of the story that is real。 。。。more

Ik heb de film gezien een jaar geleden ook doctor sleep dus dat boek wil ik ook nog gaan lezen。 Maar dit boek was totaal niks voor mij。 Normaal lees ik binnen een week een boek uit maar deze duurde wat langer。 Ik denk dat de schrijfstijl mij niet ligt。 Hopelijk heb ik meer geluk met één van de andere boeken van Stephen King。
